BY: GODFERY GABRIEL

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly stealing reflective “cat eye” safety lights on the Third Mainland Bridge.

‎The suspects were apprehended after operators monitoring newly installed CCTV cameras detected suspicious movements and alerted security personnel.

‎Police say the men were caught in the act with about one hundred and fifty-six reflective cat eye lights removed from the bridge.

‎The arrest was confirmed during a security briefing attended by the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, who decried rising attacks on critical national infrastructure.

‎Mr Umahi commended the police for their swift response, warning that vandalism endangers lives and undermines national development.

‎He disclosed plans by the Federal Government to expand CCTV surveillance to other highways across the country.

‎The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Adesina Lawal, said the surveillance system covers the bridge, its underside, and surrounding waterways.

‎Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the full involvement of the suspects and identify possible accomplices.
