The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding the activities of fraudsters who are falsely claiming to possess award letters for construction projects and special financial interventions purportedly sponsored by the bank. This warning was articulated by the CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Ali, who emphasized that these claims are entirely fraudulent and aimed at deceiving unsuspecting Nigerians.
The CBN clarified that individuals making these claims are motivated solely by the intent to defraud. They often present fake award letters for contracts related to construction and other financial initiatives
The bank has officially discontinued direct development interventions and special project funding, aligning with the current management’s focus. Therefore, any assertions of ongoing funding or interventions should be disregarded
The CBN has not authorized any public notices regarding such interventions on social media or other news outlets. The public is urged to be cautious and verify any claims before engaging with entities that purport to represent the bank
The CBN is encouraging Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or publications to the appropriate law enforcement agencies
This warning comes at a time when fraudulent schemes targeting individuals and businesses in Nigeria are on the rise, highlighting the need for increased awareness and caution among the public.
