Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have announced visa-free travel and residency rights for citizens of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), despite the trio’s impending withdrawal from the 15-member regional bloc in January.
The military-led governments of the three nations emphasized that the decision was made in the spirit of friendship and aimed at strengthening the centuries-old bonds between African people.
The move comes as Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger continue to reject ECOWAS’s calls to restore democratic governance following recent military takeovers.
