Women’s leader in Badagry has called on Lagos State to address what she described as long-standing political marginalization of the Badagry Federation.
Honorable Rafeequat Arinola Onabamiro who addressed the media on behalf of Women Badagry Federation, questioned whether true fairness can be claimed in Lagos if a significant region continues to be excluded from top leadership positions.
The speaker noted that since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, Badagry has never produced a governor or held key executive offices.
She emphasized that the concern is not a complaint but a moral and legitimate demand for equity and inclusion.
The group appealed directly to political leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, to uphold fairness.
According to her, Badagry has consistently supported the ruling party and contributed to political mobilization over the years.
She described Badagry as a strategic gateway to West Africa with strong potential in tourism, agriculture, and trade.
The leader stressed that the region is essential to Lagos State and should not be treated as peripheral.
She also criticized individuals who claim to represent Badagry without genuine ties to the community.
Such individuals, she said, benefit from the region’s identity without sharing in its struggles or aspirations.
The women insisted that political representation must be authentic, earned, and rooted in the community.
They highlighted leadership qualities such as character, consistency, and commitment as key criteria for support.
The group expressed strong backing for a Badagry son, Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, citing his contributions to party growth and grassroots mobilization.
They pointed to his support for electoral processes and the Renewed Hope Agenda as evidence of his capability.
The women however demanded that the Lagos governorship be zoned to Badagry as a matter of justice, equity, and historical balance.
Recall that this is the third time in less than two weeks, that same demand is coming from Badagry indigens.
