The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has called off its two-week warning strike and instructed members across the country to resume work on Monday, December 16, 2024.
ASUP had embarked on the strike on December 2 to protest the government’s neglect of polytechnic education and address other unresolved issues.
However, in a statement dated December 12 and shared with newsmen on Friday, the ASUP National President, Shammah Kpanja, announced the suspension of the industrial action after a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Kpanja revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the meeting, with a commitment to convene again on January 23, 2025, to finalize resolutions to the union’s demands. He also noted that ASUP’s National Executive Council will convene to review developments ahead of the scheduled meeting with the government in January.
