APC chieftain and former Niger State Commissioner Jonathan Vatsa has urged President Bola Tinubu to change his administration’s approach and reconnect directly with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Vatsa said the recent Osun governorship election should serve as a warning to the APC, arguing that governors and political structures alone may not guarantee victory in 2027.

He attributed growing public dissatisfaction to economic hardship, despite increased government revenue following the removal of the petrol subsidy. Vatsa also criticised the concentration of subsidy savings in the hands of state governors and political leaders.

According to him, the Osun election showed that Nigerians are becoming more politically aware and willing to vote according to their convictions and defend their votes.

Vatsa warned that the 2027 election would be highly competitive and urged Tinubu to ensure that government policies deliver visible benefits directly to citizens.

He said the President must recognise the changing political mood and act quickly to regain public confidence before the next election.
