Air Force Surveillance Operations Boost Search for Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren — Makinde

Nigerian Air Force

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) swiftly deployed an aerial surveillance platform to support efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted schoolchildren in the state.

According to a statement issued by NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the governor made the disclosure during a courtesy visit by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, on June 5, 2026.

Makinde said the surveillance platform was deployed immediately after news of the abduction emerged, providing critical intelligence that has strengthened ongoing search-and-rescue operations.

The governor noted that intelligence gathered from the aerial surveillance missions has continued to assist security agencies in monitoring developments and coordinating efforts towards securing the safe release of the victims.

He appealed to residents of the state to remain patient and supportive, assuring them that all available resources are being deployed to ensure a successful outcome.

Makinde commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt intervention and sustained support, explaining that the Air Force provided the surveillance platform while the state’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.

He further disclosed that Oyo State procured the aircraft following consultations with the NAF to guarantee access to maintenance support, engineering expertise, and pilot training.

The governor expressed confidence that the new aerial assets would significantly improve security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once they become fully operational.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.

He also commended the Oyo State Government for its continued support for NAF projects and infrastructure development within the state, stressing the importance of collaboration in addressing security challenges.
