Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has come to the defense of his teammate Alex Iwobi, urging fans to refrain from attacking him on social media following Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night, Musa acknowledged the team’s defeat in the final match against Ivory Coast and emphasized that singling out Iwobi for criticism is unfair.

Iwobi, who has faced harsh criticism from fans, deleted photos from his Instagram page after Nigeria’s defeat in the AFCON final. The Super Eagles were defeated 2-1 by the hosts, ending their hopes of securing a fourth continental crown.

After the match, Iwobi removed most of the photos from his Instagram handle and locked the comment section of the remaining post to prevent cyberbullying.
