A fatal road crash at Saapade Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of 10 people, while six others sustained injuries, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The crash involved a Sinotruk truck and a Toyota Hiace bus, with a total of 18 occupants in both vehicles.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, Afolabi Odunsin, said the victims comprised 15 adult males, two adult females, and one male child. Among the deceased were nine adult males and one male child, while four adult males and two adult females sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two other adult males escaped without injuries.

Investigations by the FRSC revealed that the crash was caused by speeding, dangerous driving, and wrongful overtaking. The Corps said the truck driver allegedly reversed on the highway after missing his route, leaving the oncoming bus with little room to manoeuvre before it crashed into the truck.

FRSC rescue personnel responded promptly, evacuating the injured victims to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to FOS Morgue, Ipara, in Ogun State.

The Corps urged motorists to avoid reversing on highways, obey speed limits, and exercise patience while driving to prevent avoidable road tragedies.
