Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, Monday, 12th February 2018 at about 1400 hrs rescued one Billiaminu Abdullahi, 37yr old resident of Igando, a Lagos suburb, who fell inside a 150-foot deep well, while working in the well. Speaking on the incident, the Public Affairs Officer of the Fire Service, Bola Ajao, while confirming the rescue operations, stated that Officers of the Fire Service responded to the distress call at about 1400hrs from the Ikotun Fire Service Station and promptly raced to the scene, meeting the victim battling for life inside the well.
Ajao noted with the modern equipments available for the service men, they were able to rescue the victim even as it was almost impossible, considering the depth of the well and the trapping of the victim by materials inside the well. “Our team, led by SF Taiwo got to the scene after the distress call and with the availability of modern equipments and timely deployment of these equipments, were able to save the man from the brink of death in a 9minute operation”, Ajao said. The fire service with support from men of the Nigerian Police rescued the man alive while he was taking to the General Hospital, Igando for medical attention.
The Spokesman of the fire service also enjoined Lagosians to take safety and security very seriously and should not hesitate in making emergency calls to necessary responders for prompt attention, thereby saving lives and loss of properties when emergencies occur. The victim, a local artisan was engaged to dig the well and in the process, slipped and fell inside the well and got trapped.
